Helping Children Build Strength, Movement, and Confidence Through Pediatric Therapy
Every child develops at their own pace, but some children may need additional support to build movement skills, confidence, and independence. Pediatric Therapy provides specialized support that helps children improve strength, coordination, balance, and everyday abilities through personalized care designed around their unique needs.
At Active Rockland, the Pediatric Program focuses on helping children participate more comfortably in daily activities, play, school routines, and physical activities. Through a combination of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy, children receive guidance that supports both their physical development and functional skills.

Understanding How Pediatric Therapy Supports Child Development
Children rely on movement skills for almost everything they do, from crawling and walking to playing sports, writing, and participating in classroom activities. When strength, coordination, or motor skills are challenging, therapy can provide structured support to help children progress.
Active Rockland’s Pediatric Program supports children with concerns such as developmental delays, balance challenges, strength limitations, posture concerns, gait difficulties, and movement challenges related to injuries or growth. The goal is not only improving skills, but helping children feel more confident using them.
How Physical Therapy Helps Children Move With Confidence
Physical Therapy focuses on improving large movement skills, also called gross motor skills. These include activities such as walking, running, jumping, climbing, maintaining balance, and coordinating body movements.
For children who experience delays or difficulty with movement, a pediatric physical therapist creates exercises and activities that match their abilities and goals. Therapy may include strengthening exercises, balance activities, gait training, and functional movement practice.
How Occupational Therapy Builds Everyday Skills
Occupational Therapy helps children develop the skills needed for daily activities. These may include handwriting, dressing, feeding, fine motor control, sensory regulation, and completing age-appropriate tasks independently.
Many children benefit from OT when they have difficulty with tasks that require coordination between their hands, eyes, and body. Therapy focuses on practical skills that can make home, school, and social activities easier and more enjoyable.
The Importance of Early Support and Family Involvement
Recognizing concerns early can make a meaningful difference in a child’s development. Early support allows therapists and families to create strategies that encourage progress during important stages of growth.
Parents and caregivers play an important role in pediatric therapy. By understanding recommended activities and strategies, families can continue supporting their child’s progress beyond therapy sessions.
Helping Children Grow Stronger Every Step of the Way
Every child has their own strengths, challenges, and goals. With the right support, children can continue developing the skills they need to move, learn, play, and participate with greater confidence.
If you have concerns about your child’s movement, development, or everyday abilities, Active Rockland’s team can help you understand available options and determine the right next step.
